It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of Melvin Maltz, a Silver Fox Advisor and Monte Pendleton Emeritus Council member.  For those of us who did not know Melvin personally, below is some information from his funeral notice:
A man of 99 years, he lived a life filled with family, love, devotion, leadership, compassion, and service.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 25 wonderful years, Phyllis G. Maltz, wife of 44 wonderful years, Corky Maltz, son, Jim Maltz, daughter, Debi Fenberg, and brother, Herschel Maltz.

After graduation from San Jacinto High School in 1943, Melvin attended Texas A&M and was a graduate of the class of ’47. In August 1944, he enlisted in the Air Force. Melvin was proud of his service to his country during WW II and the Army of Occupation in Germany. After 2 years of military service, he returned to A&M to finish his degree, graduating in June 1948 with a degree in aeronautical engineering and was commissioned as an Air Corp 2nd Lt in the US Air Force.

Melvin joined Century Papers Inc. He rose to vice president with responsibility for its manufacturing divisions. After 38 years at Century, with John Webb and Bud Heyman he formed National Inpak Corp. and served as president of NIC and its two subsidiaries: National Cellulose Corporation and Inpak Corporation. He also served as president of the Southern Area of Paperboard Packaging Council and as a board member of Paperboard Packaging Council.

His next business phase was 34 years in the insurance business with Lone Star Advisory Group. He earned Life Membership in the Life Insurance Million Dollar Round Table.

During his 72-year business career, he served as board member, committee chair, or president of numerous organizations: Congregation Beth Israel, Visiting Nurse Association, board president of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, board president of the Houston Area American Cancer Society, Silver Fox Advisors, Jewish Community Center, chair of Lombardi Committee of Rotary Club of Houston, and Westwood Golf Club.

His special interests were Texas A&M University, golf, and the state’s Prison Entrepreneurship Program in Cleveland, Texas. Both golf and his association involvement with Texas A&M helped build Melvin’s circle of friends. He was president of the Houston A&M Club, vice president of activities of Texas A&M’s Association of Former Students, board member of the Association, board chair of the Association of Former Students, board chair of Board of Visitors to Texas A&M Galveston, president of A&M’s Sul Ross Group, class agent for Class of 1947, commencement speaker at A&M’s December 1973 graduation ceremony, and board member of President’s Board of Visitors for Texas A&M’s Corps of Cadets. Two of his life’s highlights were being honored on October 18, 2013, as a Distinguished Alumnus of Texas A&M and being inducted into Texas A&M’s Corps of Cadets Hall of Honor on August 23, 2025.
